Sauna

The sauna is in Finland a habit. Indeed, there is almost everywhere. In our hall of residence, in the gymnasium to relax after the sport, in cottage etc...

To define simply, the sauna is a small wooden hut or a room in which we have a bath of dry heat, being able to vary 70 °C in 100 °C, for the well-being.
It is the practice which I have appreciated because it is a friendly place or we can all find themselves at the end of the day and who really allows to relax us.
I also tested a current practice in Finland which is to throw itself into the snow or into the lake frozen during the sauna to cool before returning to it.
To Kuopio, there is the biggest smoke sauna of the world. The savusauna (smoke sauna) is a special type of sauna without a chimney. Wood is burned in a particularly large stove and the smoke fills the room. We thus all went there there, it was a very good experience. It is moreover the only time when I jumped into an ice-cold lake!! I shall not make it every day.

Trip to St Petersburg

StpetStpet2

I went to St Petersburg during the Russian business environment from 15 to 19 April.
We went there by bus, the trip takes 10 hours!

We made during the last 4 on-the-spot days many things. We visited the museum of the Hermitage, which is a very big museum and very renowned, wemade a guided tour of the city and of its prestigious monuments by bus, we had dinner in typical restaurants. We also attended numerous conferences of Finn which work in Russia and which spoke to us about their companies and about the way of working in Russia which is very different from that of Europe.
What I keep in memory of this journey it is first of all the beauty of the city, that is full of history and impressive monuments. But also the insecurity which reigns in the city, there is indeed of numerous pickpocket and I shall not walk only in this city !

Day in Tahko

Tahko3TahkoTahko4

One of my courses is called Nordic Winter Activities and the goal is that the exchange students discover typical activities of Finland.
Tahko is a site located about 1 hour from Kuopio and we can practice full of activities.
There was in the program: snowshoeing, snowmobiling and sledding.

We begin with snowshoeing, it was the first time for me and I don't really apreciate. In fact it's really difficult to walk with snowshoeing because we sink into the snow. However we could admire very beautiful landscapes, everything was white with the snow.

The second activity was snowmobiling. I really apreciated this activity. In fact, we could drive the snowmobile and it was therefore a more lively and active

Finally we made the sledge, the teacher knew the place and he had found a perfect run! So we had fun for about an hour.

We then returned by bus, very tired that day. I think it was one of the best day I spent in Finland!

Savonia University of Applied Sciences

savonia-university

Here is a picture of my university in Kuopio.

There is one other in the town called University of Easter Finland. You should know that Kuopio is the 8th largest city in Finland and is very student.
The University is located 15 minutes from my dorm bus.
There are many differences between French and Finnish universities. Indeed, for example every morning arriving at the university, Finnish deposit their coats on hangers that are everywhere. Some even ask their bags with their computers. I was very shocked because in France there were many flights as it never happens here. There are also computers available to students in the lobby are free service. I find it rather nice to leave your things safely (although I do not think I have the courage to leave my bag with everything in it one day, but my monteau do).
Regarding prices, it is also very different. Most courses are in fact not required, the teachers are almost never call and all courses are available to students on the internet. In addition, the use of tempsest weird because some courses are the same hours and the student must choose which course they want to participate each week.During the course, students can meet their réléphone go out without any explanation to the teacher, they may also arrive late without justification and the teacher often leaves us out in advance. The relationship between teachers and students is very different. These tutoies their teachers and do not raise their hand to speak. After a month of course, all this still shocks me. But I think it's pretty good although I think that this system would not work in France.
